Career Change Dogs are dogs that have been assessed and found to be unsuitable, either mentally or physically, to take on the demanding role of a Guide Dog. Our list of applicants who are interested in receiving one of our career change dogs is currently closed, as we get so many requests and rehome very few dogs each year. However, for information purposes, these dogs are sold to the general public under the following conditions:

- The dogs are always neutered/spayed (generally 14-18 months old);
- They are sold at $600 plus tax;
- Purchasers must live within a 2-hour driving distance of Ottawa;
- There must be an adult home during the day; and
- There must be a secure yard or area in the yard for the dog.

If the list is going to be opened (depending on whether we need more people), it will open on the first working day of the month. Requests are taken by telephone only and are done on a first-come, first-served basis (our switchboard opens at 8:30 am EST). An application form is then sent to you for your completion. Once your application is accepted, we cannot guarantee when you will receive a dog, as this is dependent on how many dogs do not make the grade to become a Guide Dog.

If you wish to call at the beginning of each month, our number is (613) 692-7777.

Thank you for your interest in our program.
